Field code being displayed and not the field

Howdy,

All the fields on my document are now showing up as the field code and not
the actual field, anyone know how to fix this?

Example:

I type in (e-mail address removed)
and it displays { mailto:[email protected] } (or somthing like that
can't remember the exact code sorry.

it also dose it for other fields and inserting objects from other files.
