I currently have Outlook 2000 and wanted to know if its worthwhile to
upgrade to outlook 2003 ? I only use the mail portion of outlook and
don't use calendar or any of the other options. Is 2003 more
compatible with WinXP ?

Thanks,
Chris

If you are just strictly e-mail (no calendar, contacts, tasks, .etc) then
you are missing a good portion of what Outlook 2003 is bringing to the
table. However some of things that you might like in Outlook 2003 are:

1) Better security. (bots, pictures, .etc that load from the web in html
are blocked by default)

2) Cool new reading pane that shows more of the message. This new reading
pane doesn't allow script behind html message to run by default

3) Search folders

4) Junk e-mail engine completely revamped and actually works Oh and lets not
forget MS does provide updates where they never did with OL2000. ;)

5) For the POP3 users, the file size limit on PST files are lifted to 20GB.
(Packrats rejoice!)

I went from Office 2000 SR1 to Office 2003 and I wouldn't go back unless
someone forced me there (and I would go kicking and screaming).

PS - none of the above is dependent on the XP operating system.

Diane,

sorry for going outstide the bounds here but I have gotten some really good
answers from you in the past.

my machine used to be on exchange and I physically moved the machine , but
did no other maintenace. When I try to defrag, the outlook pst file is in
c/exchange folder, not the normal place on non exchange machines. so when I
defrag, the pst is in 36000 different places. Can you help defrag it or
tell me how to take it off exchange so that it is just regular outlook?

I know that my verbage isn't great but im not a native techie.

Are you using Outlook 2000?

I don't think exchange is an issue here - you can close Outlook and move the
pst wherever you want. When you reopen it, outlook will whine and you can
point it to the new location.

yes using outlook 2K--- by the way, do you have any idea how to defrag all
the files. defrag doesn't seem to be working.

what os? you need to make sure no files are in use - do it immediately after
a reboot, before you open any programs. I think you can hold shift as it
boots to prevent start up apps from loading.

also - empty the temp folders, deleted items and internet cache before
defragging.
