A machine has been running for several years without any Virus checker.
Recently this machine has become very slow. Windows ME is the original
operating system, recently upgraded to Windows XP. Managed to clean out all
the viruses except for one. W32.pinfi. Read most of the resources with
Symantec and several others and performed those tasks, however, the virus is
still around.

Then decided to format the hard drive. No luck. XP doesn't recognize "format
c: or format c:\". Made a start up disk from XP to read on boot up , that to
doesn't work. Had a Win ME start up disk, (and it had FDISK on it) that
didn't work either. Upon re-boot the computer did not pick up the boot disk.
Even after setting the BOIS to set the first, second boot to floppy.

Can anyone help me?
Thanking you in advance,

Best regards,

If you can boot from the CD-ROM drive - most computers can theses days- you
may have to adjust in BIOS - use the WinXP CD-ROM disc to delete the
partition exisitng then create a new one. Boot from the CD-ROM and start an
installation .. as you continue you will be offered the option to format it
FAT32 or NTFS and so on.

You do it as part of a reinstall of the system after booting the XP CD
direct. Enter Setup, and after the license agreement take New Install.
When it asks you to confirm where, hit ESC; select and delete the
current partition and make a new RAW one to be formatted at the next
stage
