My Microsoft fax worked fine until DSL basic was
installed
Now it wants to connect to my old 56k fax modem and
Microsoft fax will only allow me to cofigure the old modem
I called my DSL provider and they told me to contact
Micosoft
Any suggestions would be much appreciated?
Thanx

Stands to reason. Fax uses phone lines, not the Internet.
You must use your fax modem and a phone line if you want to fax.

That's the way it's supposed to work. Unless you use on on-line (pay)
fax service, faxing from your computer can only be done using the same
kind of telephone connection that you can talk over. And of course the
fax software wants to configure your "56k FAX modem" -- there is no such
thing as a "DSL fax modem" (at least I've never heard of anyone putting
both devices in the same box).

If your telephone is connected to the same physical wire that serves
your DSL modem (by use of a filter), buy a two-line splitter ($5.99 at
Radio Shack -- look for modular adapter), unplug the phone cord from the
DSL filter, replace it with the adapter, then plug your phone into one
socket of the adapter and the wire from your fax modem into the other.
Note that with this setup you will be able to talk on your phone or
send/receive a fax -- but not both at the same time (although you should
be able to do one or the other while remaining on-line via DSL).

Wayne,
You still need a phone line connection to your
computer modem for fax capabilities. Try running a line
splitter from the wall jack. Run one phone line to the
DSL modem, the other line to your computer modem.
