Vista Ultimate has the same software for fax as the business edition.
Not installed by default, but easily added.

Try at efax.com: works like a champ for sending and receiving.............

If you still have a copy of the ancient Quicklink II that will work under
Vista (Quicklink III will not). You cannot fax from a program like word as
the print drivers will not work but you can fax any txt file you created.

Thanks for all the recommendations. I was thinking of something powerful
like winfax. I had version 9.0 with win98SE, had to buy version 10.03 with
xp and now winfax is gone and it doesn't work with vista. I don't know why
symantec is dumped it but it was a great software, with a few hicuups
though.

The fax in xp is really junk, far short of winfax. Does practically nothing
except the basic stuff.

Seen some screenshots of the fax in vista business and it looked impressive.
But I don't know whether to upgrade coz I don't want to be disappointed by a
functionless fax programme.

Hi,

I have "Snappy Fax" running on my Vista PC. I have researched it a lot and
it currently seems to be the only decent Vista compatible 3rd party fax
solution. You can try it free for 30 days and it costs $29 to register which
is a lot cheaper than a Vista upgrade to a version that has scan and fax. I
think Mighty Fax is due out in a few months which would be another decent
choice.

Snappy Fax works great for sending and receiving with my internal Coexant
(sp?) modem that came with my Dell laptop. It is a very powerful deluxe
program. Google it to find their website.

Snappy Fax does not work with my Motorola Cell phone attached with either a
USB cable or communicating through Bluetooth. (I have an email into their
tech support and I am hopeful). Faxing through my cell phone used to work
fine for me in XP Home Premium and I am not too happy that I have lost that
capability which I occasionally need on the road.

I feel ripped off that MS decided to take features that used to be in the XP
Home Premium addition out of the Vista Home Premium addition. I was kind of
enthusiastic about Vista at first but after learning that an upgrade is
really a downgrade I have now decided that the 10 PCs at my office business
can keep running XP for a few more years. Microsoft will get my money
eventually but they have left a sour taste in my mouth over this issue so
they will have to wait.

For a while, Microsoft was asking people to document their "Vista WOW
moment". I guess mine was, "Wow, not being able to fax sucks rocks!"

Regards,
Jack

this is for all verision of Vista.

Yes and if you have one line a good fax switch.
Fax software at snappysoftware.com Snappy Fax Verision 4.0 is working fine
for me.

Also I only have one line for data and voice.
I bought a fax switch from Stapple.
It was ComSwitch 5500 and I used the Semi-automactic mode and it works great.
