Just bought an EPSON STYLUS 5400, which is a scanner,
copier, printer combo, and finally got DSL connection to
my computer. When I try to perform copy to fax the setup
only recognizes the old modem, which is no longer hooked
up. How do I set up to send fax from the scanner, copier
and receive fax?

Go to microsoft help and search their knowledge bases.
You should find what you need. By the way, with a DSL
modem, you telephone line has to be plugged into the back
of your computer and not your modem. You will need an
extra telephone line. Not a new line an extention line
that plugs into the back of your computer. You will see a
little telephone on your computer and plug the line into
that. It cannot run through your DSL modem. I had the
same problem. You DSL server can help you with this
problem

To send a fax you still need the old modem. Use a splitter to connect the
same telephone line to the regular modem. This has nothing to do with the
DSL connection. Faxes are sent using old analog technology unless you choose
to use one of the internet fax providers such as eFax
