Please adjust your time zone..... you are posting in the future.
Right Click on the clock in the taskbar select adjust Date/Time

:-)

Unless he's not in this time zone.

No, this isn't correct. Where he is doesn't matter. The time and
date you see on newsgroup messages is always adjusted to *your*
local time zone.

I'm assuming you upgraded the OS to XP?

Have you tried the compatibility settings for the program? I'm sure you have
already but if not then try that.

Mail/Fax developed by who?

Since getting XP last year, I have not been able to use my fax. Don't
know why. It dials okay, then simply hangs up. Local experts weren't
able to fix the problem either. I liked having a computer fax, since it
bypasses hard copy completely. There's also a related problem: Oddly
enough, I can never open my MAIL/FAX icon in Settings (with other icons,
such as for mouse, keyboard, etc.). Instead I get the message: YOU
NEED MORE MEMORY OR SYSTEM RESOURCES. CLOSE SOME WINDOWS AND TRY
AGAIN. This is obviously incorrect, since I never have windows open
when I try to open the icon and my memory, both RAM and hard drive, is
something like 40 G. Any suggestions?

Clock: Right click your clock in the toolbar, set your timezone, set your
time. If your time is skewed after every boot then your system board battery
or something there is not too happy.

Personally I'd get on the net and try to find a fix for the software but I'm
not sure you will find one easily. If you have the WinFax, Mail/Fax software
then I would uninstall and reinstall. I was willing to try and assist in
finding a replacement but I have no idea who has developed the one you
have - Microsoft?

If it doesn't work out and you're not happy then I'd contact your dealer. If
you're copy of XP is legit and it's all Microsoft software then ideally they
will assist you.

Your comment about the time zone is interesting. I'm wondering if
there's a
relation between my computer turning on automatically after a few
hours. How
is it possible that my clock is set correctly, local time, and the
time zone
is wrong? Right now the clock shows the time it really is, according
to other clocks in my apartment and my wristwatch.

If so, then your time zone is clearly wrong. You are set forward
by 14 or more hours.

Thanks for your reply. It was pleasant to read a response to my email
among
several others discussing every issue but the one I brought up. I'm
sorry, but
I don't know what you mean by OS (old software?). I bought the whole
package
and everything was installed. But this is Taiwan (explaining the clock
issue
that has catalyzed a cyber crisis on this newsgroup) and my program was
English. There isn't much assistance I can expect. There's a microsoft
in
Taipei but the line is usually busy. Worse, my dealer forgot to warn me
about
the serial number and he claims I discarded it with the box.
Fortunately, we
emailed the serial number immediately to Microsoft, so, somehow, I'll be
able to
identify myself if necessary. But I'm not too eager to look for the
serial
number if I don't have to. I think Microsoft usually requests a serial
number
for assistance. But, to make a long story short, after I phoned my
dealer a few
times on his cell phone, he stopped responding to my rings (cell phones
identify
the number, as you know). The basic advice he gave was that my server
usually
causes problems with Windows Fax in Taiwan (apparently other customers
had the
same problem) and that once I went to ADSL the problem would stop. I'm
now on
cable and the problem remains. Several people came over trying to make
it
work. It doesn't. I'd install a FAX, but it's difficult to find an
English Fax
here. For some reason, I'm reluctant to download software from the Net,
but
that's an option.
The basic issue is, I assume that Windows does everything, related
to
printers, etc. From what I understand in the user-friendly menu, all
the
necessities are installed. Certainly the phone dials immediately, then
hangs up
everytime.
Back to that clock: For you concerned over this issue: what can I
do?
Reset the clock everytime I post?

icon
menu and I noticed something about Time Zone and my clock being
synchronized
automatically when I'm on the Internet. Maybe that's what's causing the
discrepancy.
