I have a large amount of sites saved in my favorites
folder from when I'm on internet explorer. Do these
favorites take up memory only when they are active?

Greetings --

They only take up memory when you are viewing that specific page (when
running IE). You can have as many favorites as you like. They take up hard
drive space.

Hi Jeanie,

Your list of favorites takes up very little space as each
one is just a pointer to a webpage. Less than 512 bytes
each. To give you perspective, it would take 2,000 of them
to take up 1 meg of hard drive space. What does take up
space is your internet cache, which is copies of those
websites stored on your computer. You can manage them by
the Tools->Internet Options->Temporary Internet Files
selection within Internet Explorer. You can also run the
disk cleanup utility by selecting My Computer->Right Click
on the hard drive (ie: C:)->disk cleanup. To thoroughly
clean up internet crud that gets on your PC, go to
download.com and try out a 3rd party application.
