Fatal Error

hey...i'm trying to install xp on my computer and it is
not going very well
the computer came with ME
i reformated the entire C drive
then installed ME
and now i am trying to do and upgrade from ME to XP
I keep getting this error
Error SXS.DLL: Syntax error in manifest or policy
file "c:\$win_NT$.~ls\1386\asms\1000
\msft\winows\diplus\gdiplus.man

Installation failed: C:\$win_nt$.~ls\l386/asms. Error
Message: A compenent's file does not match the
verification information present in the component manifest

fatal error:
one of the componests that windows needs to continue
setup could not be installed

does anyone know what this means? thank you
 
The Ram is Dell Original....the memory, or anything else
on the computer, as never been altered. Do you think it
could still be causing the problem? Thanks, Dan

I would tend to lean towards the Ram still. I've seen many cases where
the Ram works fine in most other Windows systems except for WinXP.
WinXP is very picky on the quality of Ram. If there is any issue with
the Ram it would give problems.
