while trying to reformat hard drive fron ntfs to fat 32
(wanting to delete xp proto and install win me)
error reads-
format cannot run because the volume is in use by another
process. format may run if this volume is dismounted
first. ALL OPENED HANDLES TO THIS VOLUME WOULD THEN BE
INVALID.
would you like ti force a dismount on this volume (y/n)

after trying removing ntfs useing the win xp cd rom
following the microsoft knowledge base article-314052,step
2 diddnt work(press f10), so i just ran the comand in the
run dox and the above message came up. is this because win
xp pro is running and i ran formatc:/fs:fat32 from the run
diolog box.
any help or advice would be great

I don't entirely follow the problem in your description, but I think you
can do what you want to do by booting from the Windows XP CD, and choosing
Recovery Console. Then delete all partitions (remember that **ALL**
information on them will be lost, so make a backup of whatever you need). At
that point, exit Recovery Console, boot from a Win Me Startup Disk, format
the hard disk, and run Setup from the Win Me CD. This should give you a
FAT32 partition on the hard disk.
