Is there a FAQ or some docs somewhere on how to get
started with XPe? I'm thinking about trying this for some
applications in my organization, but would want to modify
the standard image that comes with many manufacturer's
thin clients.
Basically, I want to learn how to take a XP install and
customize it and load it on a thin client device. Thanks
in advance.

You can't modify image that came with your device. (It would not be easy and
probably it would not be legal).
But what you can do is to make your Windows XP Embedded image with XPe
tools.

Mr. Lee,

We are a thin client manufacturer that instead of selling a standard image,
we actually build our XPe images to your specifications and offer a free
proof of concept until you are satisfied that the image or images are what
you want to deploy. This feature is included in our base price and there are
no hidden charges for consulting etc. We also show you once you have signed
off on an image how to manage these images, make changes to them and adapt
them to your network and reimage the thin clients. We can store the changes
you have made on our PXE server and as you roll out new devices we will roll
out the new images to those devices.

The good thing is that this feature/service is included in the base price of
the thin clients and so there are no hidden costs at time of purchase.

If you are interested in what we have to offer please drop me a line or give
me a call and I can show you what we have done for other customers.

Cheers

Even if the SLX is shipped with the device? My vendor sends the custom SLX
on CD and therefore I should be able to load it and modify it to my liking
right?

That would be between you and your device manufacturer, but in all
likelyhood the answer is yes. If they were worried about you mod'ing it,
they wouldn't send you the slx...

Jlee,

If you are looking to get started, there are a couple of XPe books published
by RTC Books: www.rtcbooks.com.
