I am looking for advice.
On returning to Florida from summering in the North I
attempted to update my Windows XP-Home with the latest
security updates.
My machine refuses to take the updates.
My machine is a Compac running XP-Home. I have a high
speed cable modem coneection through a Hub/Router to a
local net work.
I have used the Explorer update page, selected the
updates, I get a small window with two sliders. The upper
one appears to indicat download from the web site, that
goes very quickly. The lower one appears to be an install
process that takes for ever, and it never indicates it is
complete. (I once left it all night it was still there in
the morning.)
I have tried turning off the Norton AV Auto-Protect. I
also tried downloading just one update. Also running just
the IE application (other that the ones that load
automatically)
It doesnt make any difference, review of the log shows
all attempts fail.
Suggestions/thoughts anyone.
Thank you for your attention,
Maurice Millard
