Failed Grokster installation: Explorer no longer connnects

After a failed Grokster installation Internet Explorer 6
on Windows XP no longer connects to the Internet.

MSN Explorer works fine as does the browser facility in
Outlook. Opera still connects fine. The problem is
solely with Explorer which simply returns a standard
error message.

Have run Spy Sweeper and similar programs to eliminate
all the rubbish that came down with Grokster. Have
uninstalled all the obvious remnants of Grokster itself.
Have checked proxy settings etc.

Any further assistance will be gratefully received.
