You may have corrupted profile on this machine for that particular user, you
can try System restore to an earlier date before it happened.

Right click My computer and select Properties, then click on Advanced tab
and click on StartUp and Recovery Button.
Make sure that this check box is unchecked:
[ ] Automatically restart
Click [OK]

I will check this machine for Viruses and Malwares and make sure it is clean.
How to access the event
Viewer do the following:
Open a run command and type in:
eventvwr.msc clcik [OK] on the event Viewer Look for error Messages (X)
and double click them to get more Info about the causer and you can copy and
past in your next post.

Well, double click those Red things and Copy and paste in your next post,
but don't repeat the error, just samples from each.
Then what the AVG find, what the name of the Virus or malware?.
You can try a scan on line from other vendors.

oh and while we are here while trying to set up another aaccount with the
reinstalled system it will not allow me to select the limited user account
type - whats wrong??

Hi Craig,
So, you done a clean install on another Hard drive, what happen to the old
drive?, is it still connected and how its settings (i.e. Slave or Primary
drive?).
Try the installation again on the New drive, by reading this link to prepare
yourself and perform the new installation in the right direction:
Here is a link to prepare yourself fro clean install:
http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/cleanxpinstall.html
Please disconnect the old drive while performing the installation, then you
can set the jumpers on the old Drive to make it slave and connect it and Run
a scan on it with an anti-virus up2date to make sure nothing penetrate or
infect the new installation and you can rescue your files and document and
formate after moving or back up the data to a removable storage.
HTH.
Let us know.

before i did the install i made a backup of my files first and i am using
sata drives so there is no drive jumpers, but once i have done a new install
on the new hard drive and once that had been done i installed virus software
updated it and then istalled the old hard drive and formated it. but i have
found that when i close internet explorer 7 after updating i keep getting an
exeption 0x0eedfade on application 0x7c812a5d and then another box comes up
saying error 217 at 0230f48E.

<Quote>
What you are seeing is that you are trying to view an event log entry for
some Source ID but you do not have the associated resource DLL. Thus, Event
Viewer cannot find the localized resource string to display a meaningful
message -- it only knows the parameter values and some arbitrary text.

In other words, this design is wonderful for cross platform/language display
of events - users with Japanese Windows and Chinese Windows will be able to
simultaneously look at the same Event Log of an English Windows machine, and
each will see event messages perfectly localized to their respective
machines. However, the design falls apart when your machine lacks the
associated resource DLL to decode the event log entry (such as when you just
copy/export an arbitrary Event Log file from one machine to another and want
to read its events).
