I'm getting this extra toolbar everytime i open IE but it
doesn't show up under view->toolbars so i dunno how to get
rid of this. There is something called Iexplorer runnin in
the background and i think that is the cause of it and
everytime i try to ctrl-alt-del and delete the file it
just comes back again and never disappears. Btw im using
win 98 (se) so if anyone can help me get rid of this bar i
will be really thankful :)

Also my homepage is automatically changing by
adding "http://mysearchnow.com/passthrough/index.html?"
before my homepage url and that makes another bar open up
at the bottom on the explorer but this one i can close.
The toolbar appearin at the top is i think related to the
mysearchbar and im not 100% satisfied to use the programs
because i may be deleting the wrong items

Its mysearchbar i think because my homepage also keeps
getting changed all the time and sometimes another bar
appears at the bottom and that also is a mysearchnow thing
but i can get rid of that but not the toolbar at the top.
And the toolbar at doesnt' appear if i open a blank
open...only when i start to surf then it appears

Hi -

MySearch
http://doxdesk.com/parasite/MySearch.html

If it is this parasite, then:
Open 'Add/Remove Programs' in the Control Panel. Select the 'My Search Bar'
(MySearch variant), 'MyWay Speed Bar' (MyWay) or 'My Web Search Bar' (MyWeb)
entry and click 'Remove'. For the MyWeb variant, be sure to also remove 'Fun
Web Products Easy Installer'.

You can then reset your home page (Internet Options->General->Start Page) if
it has been changed, and search settings (Internet Options->Programs->Reset
web settings).

Whilst you may not be satisfied at the idea of using software programs which
are designed with this purpose in mind, would you be more confident to hack
into the Registry using Regedit.exe? I think that you will find it to be
more than daunting if you are unsure of how to use a program which does the
same thing. Furthermore, unless *you* make a backup to the Registry/Registry
key, there will be no turning back once the action is done.

It is true that the freeware version of ToolbarCop does not make back-ups,
but the Pro version does.

Moving along here, I have a feeling you are surfing the web
"indiscriminately". By this I mean I get the impression that you haven't any
real protection against Spyware/Malware/etc., or the means to fix it. This
isn't a criticism or judgment, but I suggest you "get with the program" and
start doing some reading. :-)

Since you also have a problem with your Homepage, which is not that uncommon
(for a variety of reasons), I think you'd be best off doing a full system
scan, and installing the "Standard Toolkit" of Anti-Spyware applications,
that anyone in their right mind wouldn't live without if they are regular
habitual users of the Internet. Other parasites are quite subtle, but can
slow your browsing, use system resources, create pop-up windows, install
spyware/tracking cookies, etc.

Check for Spyware:

*Most important* - Before you try to remove spyware using any of the
following programs, realize that the process of cleaning and removing
certain spyware and malware may possibly interrupt and kill your internet
connection. Therefore, you should obtain a copy of LSPFIX, and Winsockfix
which will then make it possible for you to re-establish your internet
connection if it gets terminated.

Download LSPFIX from either of the following sites:

http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.htm
http://www.spychecker.com/program/winsockxpfix.html (For Win2k or XP)

Download Winsockfix here
http://members.shaw.ca/installations/WinsockFix.zip

First, install the respective programs and then update them immediately, so
that they have the current versions, and definitions. **Read the Help Files
and Tutorials**.

After you've Updated Spybot S & D, and SpywareBlaster, you *must* ENABLE the
protections as well. These two programs do not automatically enable
protections obtained from the newest definitions and updates, therefore this
process but must be done manually. Without having enabled protections, the
current definitions obtained from updates will be *useless*.

Run the programs one at a time. With Ad-Aware you may have it generally
clean whatever it finds. The same applies for CWShredder. Spybot S&D
requires special attention, as does HijackThis (Only more so. Details listed
below) The programs are listed in order of their general strength, safety,
and purpose. It is perhaps best to install and run these in this order of
appearance. All are freeware programs, but if you are pleased with the
results and quality of the utilities, donations to the respective Authors
will be cheerfully accepted.

Another thing to consider doing is to run a program (only run one program at
a time) a few times consecutively. The reason for this is that the first
pass may kill certain Spyware programs, but may not be able to terminate and
kill all files and programs which may be running at the time. That is why a
second pass may be necessary to be thoroughly effective.

Under the most stubborn cases, running the programs in Safe-Mode will allow
for the best cleaning conditions, as there will be a minimum of interference
from processes running in the background.

This item below is designed to *prevent* installation of malware and the
like by comparing known CLSID's of these "bad guys" with what is in its
definitions. By enabling a *Kill Bit* it prevents known malignant ActiveX
from being installed or run on your machine. It doesn't remove anything, nor
will it fix anything that is already in your PC. Rather, it will prevent
installation or re-installation of the item once it has been removed
manually, or by the use of another program which will perform the duty of
removing the spyware.

If you use Spybot S&D, be sure to clean *ONLY* the items displayed in *RED*.
DO NOT clean any items displayed in Black or Green at this time.

Lastly there is HijackThis. Hijack this is a very powerful, last resort type
of program which is generally best used in conjunction with help from those
who deal with the findings of the log created by the HijackThis scan. It
does nothing in the scan itself; it merely says what is present and/or
running on your PC. The items must be checked-marked to be "cleaned". You
must know *exactly* what you are checking-off before you proceed. If you
don't, you can quite possibly disable many useful and vital
functions of your PC. Remember; read the Tutorials, and seek help at
SpywareInfo Forums, Net-Integration, or TomCoyote forums for safety's sake.

I've even scanned with norton and they were saying that it
should be detected but it isnt.

And yes i would prefer going into the registry myself to

5. Identify the procedures you have already used to try to fix the

already tried that." You are starting on the wrong foot with a post that
begins with, "I have tried everything and nothing works."

If you use the new (freeware) version of ToolbarCop as offered and suggested
by Ramesh, it creates back-ups. Therefore, you shouldn't have a problem
restoring the toolbar or other items if you make a mistake. Not to doubt
you, but if you feel so much more confident in the Registry, and are able to
back it up, this should be just as easy (or easier) as that. As for what the
Strings are, I don't know, as I don't have that toolbar. Good luck.

Forget all that rubbish. I had all the same problems. What's more I did not
install any software that supported this nor indulged in unsafe web-surfing
habits in order to acquire it! I returned from a game of SoF2 to find it
magically installed on my machine, with all the bells and whistles included!
I spent hours trawling through my registry, examing NIS, etc etc...all to no
avail. Toolbar cop failed to delete the thing as did all the other sundry
advice offered with regard to this menace!
Finally, in a moment of clarity I was reminded of the "KISS" principle (Keep

Low and behold I had found the holy grail! I removed it by going to this link:
