I just bought 512 of extra ram from dell.com . I thought! When I opened the
package it was 2 512 cards. 1024 all together. The support help at dell told
me because I put a 256mb graphic card in my com my power supply started
failing on me oh and dust too. He said for every 64mb of video that I have in
my com I should have 256 of ram to let me com run right. So I had 512 stock
already in mine. 2 256's of ram. I wound up taking out those and putting in
the 2 512's of ram that came. Anyways my question is I do have 2 empty slots.
OH and I did put the new ram in the same slots of my old ram I took out. So
now I have 2 256's of ram sitting here doing nothing and 2 empty slots. Would
it hurt my com or would it be a waste to put those in along side well in
slots 3 and 4 of my com with the 2 512s?Thx

What the heck is your com?

If you want to use abbreviations then please use those that are in
widespread general use. Don't just type half the word and expect
every one to "fill in the blanks."

All that does is to give people the impression that you are too lazy
to type the words correctly.

I think that the gist of your question is that you have some
additional RAM modules and some unused RAM slots in your computer.
Provided those RAM modules are of the same specification (other than
size) as the modules in your computer you should be able to install
these additional RAM modules okay.

Note that adding additional RAM beyond your existing 1 gb may not
result in any noticeable improvement in performance - it depends on
how much, if any, actual memory paging activity is occurring with 1 gb
of RAM.

You also mentioned something about Dell tech support advising you that
there should be a relationship between the amount of RAM and the
amount of video RAM in your computer. That is pure hokum. There is
no such correlation. Video RAM requirements are related to the
quality and type of video that you want to display, and that is all.

Good luck
