Where is it showing as 150GB? What about in disk management?
Start | Run | diskmgmt.msc | Ok

150gb
in disk managenent, if I run belarc it shows the full 300gb.

Could you have formatted only a 150 gig partition, leaving half of it
unallocated? If you don't have anything on it, remove the partition,
then create a new one and see if it won't use the whole drive.

Other question. Is this an old motherboard? What is the largest
internal drive you're using? Slim possibility it's a BIOS limitation.

Hi Terry, you were right, half of it was unallocated so I formatted it and
removed the partition,it no shows up as 279Gb wich sounds about right, by the
way you asked how old my comp is,its just over two years old and has a 80Gb
hard drive,
will my computer cope with all this extra space ?,anyway time will
tell, thanks a lot Terry for your help.

If it's only a couple years old, it shouldn't have a problem with that
disk capacity.

Glad I could be of assistance. Take care,

That's why I asked you to check disk management to see what it showed, 150GB
formatted and 150 GB unallocated. Yes, since you were able to combine the
two and format as one partition you will be able to use the whole drive. If
your system couldn't all you would see is 137 GB. Have fun.

No. You removed the existing partition, created a new partition and
formatted that partition. Rock was inquiring about disk management's
perception of the entire hard drive capacity, not the existing partition
size on that hard drive.

The age of the PC (and its onboard bios) has no bearing on capacity size of
the external hard drive. This is because its using the bios of the external
enclosure for that.
