Hi,
I posted this on the Dell site, but I realize that this may be a MS WIN
XP HOME problem.

My brand new External HDD was working well for months when all of a
sudden it stopped showing up in MY COMPUTER and of course, could not be
accessed. It still shows up in DEVICE MANAGER without the dread yellow
marker. It shows that the driver being used is the only one available
on MS WIN XP.

When I boot up I can hear it spin, and see the little red light ,
"reading", something for a second or two. I pulled the drive and ran
it from the IDE CONTROLLER of the same computer, and it ran fine.

Any clue for me as to where to search?

Thanks,
Mike

Thanks Gerry!

I have used Tweak UI! recently. Can you clue me in as to what I can
do, using TweakUI?

Thanks!

Mikie

As Ron says. Open TweakUi and select My Computer, Drives and
make sure there is a tick in the box before your external drive.

The information from your post suggests that you are using an enclosure.
Beg to borrow another hard drive see if it comes up. I bought two bad
enclosures from CompUSA.
