Hi everyone...

I have just purchased an external hard drive for my laptop, which is running
XP Pro... It connects via USB, and all that is fine.... it recognises the
"mass storage device" and when I go to the Device Manager it knows it is
there and it says it is working properly.....

....... but......... When I open "my Computer" to be able to copy files, etc
to it, it isn't there.......

Any ideas?????

Hopefully it's just something dumb I'm doing......

Thanks for your help...

Right click on "My Computer" and click Manage (Or go to Control Panel,
Administrative Tools, Computer Management)

Click on Storage, Disk Management.

Your drive should be in the list, but without a drive letter. Right click
where it says what drive it is (for example, if it shows your drive as "Disk
1", then right click on where it says "Disk 1.")

Click "Change Drive Letter and Path"

Click Add

Select a drive letter for your external drive.

Hope this helps :)

WHen I right click my only options are properties and help... Does it make
a difference that it is listed on the bottom half of the box?

Thanks in advance......

Also - it says it is unallocated.... whatever that means.....
