External Hard Drive Connection Issues

I have a Toshiba external HDD (laptop size) which when connected to my
laptop works just fine. But everytime I connect it to my Desktop the
external HDD does not work. The desktop recognises that a new hardware has
been installed, but thereafter does not show the external HDD in
WinExplorer. When I check under the HDD's properties it says the device can
not start CODE 10.

When I check the Device Manager, the USB Mass Storage Device shows up as a
problem in the status.

How can I overcome this issue and have the external HDD work with my
Desktop? Is it that laptop HDDs (used as external HDDs) are not compatible
with Desktops connections?

Appreciate some help. I am using WinXP Pro |SP2.

Do other USB devices work ok on that port?

If not...then try a different USB port.

Also...does the external HD require drivers?
External drives usually do not require drivers to be installed...
but maybe yours does?
