I have a lot of old school files on 5.25 floppy's that I
would like to save to CD. Someone gave me an external CMS
1.2MB floppy drive that connects to the parallel port.
However, I cannot get my PC to detect it is connected.
Thanks in advance for your assistance.

5 1/4 did not come as 1.2MB floppies. I believe their largest was around 580KB. So I am not sure what we have here. But it definitely seems your drive is not plug and play and maybe you need some drivers.

Get a friend who has built their own computer (assuming their computer works!)
to open up the 5.25" floppy drive's case and see if it has an IDE connector on
the drive itself. If it has, then ask them to install it in your computer. The
BIOS may have to be told what type of drive it is.

You are gonna have to hunt down the drivers for it and you may end up
booting off a DOS disk to get it to work.
