External Firewall not recognized

Hi, I have an external firewall (Dlink) between my home network and my ISP.
Windows does not want to recognize it. I have gone into the Windows Security
Manager several times and indicated that I had a hardware firewall solution
installed, but every time I restart Windows I get the little security bubble
telling me I am not protected.

I have verified that the external firewall is working.

I am not very expert (!) at either networking or Windows internals. Any
help anyone can give me would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Jim

Jim,

Windows Security Center is concerned with software (personal) firewalls, and
wants to ensure that you have one of those on each computer.

Whether or not your DLink, which is a NAT router, not a full firewall, provides
perimeter protection, you need protection on each computer. This is why SP2
contains Windows Firewall, which is activated by default. If you have a third
party personal firewall, you can deactivate Windows Firewall, otherwise you
should activate it.

Five years ago, a perimeter firewall would have been sufficient protection.
Today, you need a firewall on each computer, and a layered security strategy.
