Hi al
I have an excel spreadsheet that contains

- Data entered by users and standard formula
- a Pivot table with a source within this workbook (I'm a noivice and this is the first one I've done but it seems to be working alright
- a couple of buttons connected to Macros that are stored within this workboo
- pictures of logos. They aren't hyperlinked, just copied and pasted in from the Jpeg fil
- some hyperlinks connected to internal cell

When I "Save As" with a changed the file format of "Template", I get a message asking to auto refresh the External Query Data - but I don't have any external links in the workbook??

I've done a "Find" on [ to find any external links to check for external links and there are none
I've selected all cells and gone to the Data / Import External Data menu to see if I can access "External Data Properties" but it's greyed out

Why is the template looking for external data when I haven't included any? When the file is an saved as a workbook it does not ask for this refresh
Is it safe to say yes to "always refresh it on opening and don't ask the question again"
Are the users going to have problems when the template is sent to them for use (ie they are at a different location to me and the template will go onto their Network)
If it is a problem, how do I find this External Data and get rid of it

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Have you checked your named ranges (or named formulas) and macros?

If you have copied data from other workbooks it seems to carry name
ranges with it.

This doesn't show up if you just list the names (e.g. Insert, Nam
Define). Click on each named range and check the cell reference doesn'
include a link into another book.

If you transfered anything linked to a macro (buttons etc) the macr
link is also transferred. Fastest way I found to solve this was to tes
every button until one pulled up an error message where I had no
reassigned a macro in the new book, but you could right-click each an
check the assigned macro, and no doubt there's a cleverer way throug
the macro dialogue box.

Beyond that, I have no clue
