My BT phone point is in the lounge.
I am setting up my PC in the basement (PC room) below.
I don't want a wireless connection, as I want minimal network lag for online gaming.

What's the best way to connect my PC...?

1. Ethernet extension from the BT point to the basement? or...
2. Phone line extension to the basement to plug my router and a shorter ethernet cable into?

The maximum limit for Ethernet cable is 100m (328 ft), as long as you are within this limit it is OK.. So check if it exceeds this limit, if so, the second option should work better.

By the way, I noticed your presence on the forum after a long time, hope all is OK. Good to see you here :)

Hello 1nt :)

Shop bought "BT extensions" are/were not technically up to the job. Ensure it's a "proper" BT job, or you may experience some errors. ( I have first hand knowledge  )

A CAT5 (or better) Ethernet cable, as Quad pointed out, has a length limit, if you can call the length of a football pitch a limit.

Be aware of where you route the cable, no matter which you one you choose. :)
