Okay, this is probably so basic I couldn't find it in the
existing articles, but, I just replaced my internal disk
in my XP pro machine with a larger disk and the
installation software basically copied my existing 2Gb
FAT C: partition and allocated the rest to a D: partition
(180Gb). How can I extend my C: drive to use some of the
D: drive space?

Shrink D: - expand C:

You will need 3rd party software to do this (Partition Magic 8.01)

I agree with the previous posts, that you could use Partition Magic.

However, you might want to go back and reveiw exactly how you copied the C:\
information form the old drive to the new one. Some drive cloning programs
permit the user to resize on the fly. However, to resize a FAT partition
beyon 2Gig will require converting it to FAT32. Maybe the cloning software
will do this, maybe not.

Be aware that Partition Magic may have some trouble resizing if the parition
is very full, since I suspect that it will want to convert to FAT32 first,
then expand, rather than the reverse. However, you could make a couple of
extra partitions using PM, say D:\ and E:\, both FAT32. Write nothing in
D:\, but copy as much unneccessary info as possible to E:\. Also tell XP to
make its swap file on E:\. Then, use PM to change C:\ to FAT32. Then, as a
separtate step, expand C:\ into some of D:\. But, before eliminating D:\
entirely, tell XP to place the swap will back on C:\. Onc D:\ is gone, E:\
may become D:\, and that could confuse XP.
