Extended boot time after XP2

Chris

I've successfully installed SP2 on a couple of home
machines. One is XP Home, the other Pro. Haven't got any
functional problems with either - after a bit of
configuration, both are working well.
However, the XP Home machine is now taking about 3 times
as long to complete boot-up. Log-in screen appears
promptly and the desk-top shows fairly eventually. There
is then at least a couple of minutes of heavy disc
activity, during which the machine won't respond.
Apart from de-fraging (which I've done), I'm out of ideas -
nothing else has changed. Haven't found any virus's or
spyware & can't find any refences on the MS support pages.
Has anyone got any suggestions, please ?

Chris,

have a look into the event log and check for errors and warnings
that were written during that time. With luck these could point
at the culprit.

Run msconfig and check which third party programs are being
loaded.
