How can I determine where I export the Address Book to? After I click
export, it goes somewhere and then tells me it's done. I am using XP
6.00.29.

Thanks

Presuming you mean Outlook Express 6.00.29......When you click on
File-Export-Address book it gives you two options. Microsoft Exchange
Personal Addressbook or Text File (Comma Separated variable). Which did you
choose?

Thanks, yes, Outlook Express.

I choose Microsoft Exchange Personal Address book.

Well if you don't have Outlook (not Outlook EXPRESS) from MS Office, nothing
will happen. All that function does is to export the Address book to
Outlook.

Ick.

Well, what is the exported file named? I could find it and copy it somewhere
for a backup copy, couldn't I.

As Gordon correctly says, without Outlook (or another
compliant client), no file is created. The Outlook address
book (the Contacts folder) is physically embedded within
your Outlook data file, and without Outlook, no data file
exists, so nothing happens.

If you have Outlook, the addresses will be available in the
Contact folder. That said, Outlook can present its contacts
as an address book that Outlook Express can use. There's
simply no need to maintain two separate address books
when you have Outlook.

If you don't have Outlook, export as a Text File (CSV)
instead. This has the main advantage that you can then
import the address book into any other address book
that supports CSV, which is the majority, as well as
providing you with a convenient backup.

if you have NOT got Outlook installed (and I mean Outlook, NOT Outlook
EXPRESS) then the "Export to Microsoft Exchange Personal Address Book" will
NOT DO ANYTHING! It does NOT create any sort of file at ALL.

If MS Exchange isn't installed/available, it didn't go anywhere.

You can export it as a WAB file via Address Book: File > Export > Address
Book (WAB), saving it to the location of your choice.

You can export it as a TXT (CVS) file via Address Book: File > Export >
Other address book, saving it to the location of your choice.
