Exploring .NET

I've jus entered the world of .net.
I've been workin on the same 4om past couple of mths.But it really leaves me confusing when microsoft claims tht .NET is platform and language independent.

Have any one implemented .NET applications in languages other then C# and VB.NET if yes plz provide ur feedback.

Also has anyone deployed .NET application on platform other then windows ple give your feedback.
