Can somebody explain to me why Windows Explorer opens the
way it does and not as it used to do in Windows 98? Why
does Windows XP create Shortcuts in Windows Explorer when
it could just as easily show the real folder? It is all
so confusing.

I mean that the old Windows Explorer used to open with

Desktop at the top then continue with "A", "C" etc. I
think it was more logical to follow the hierarchy that
way. The XP one tends to confuse as it shows double
entries, the shortcuts and the real ones.

I hated that myself, got a trick from someone on one of the newsgroups. I
think it was purplehaz. Try this: Right click the Windows Explorer
shortcut/Properties/Put the following in Target: "%windir%\explorer.exe
/e,C:\" (without the quotes)/Apply/OK.
Or right click the desktop/New/Shortcut/Browse/expand My Computer/click the
C drive/OK/Next/Finish.
Right click the new icon/Properties/Shortcut tab/Change Icon button/pick
icon/OK/Apply/OK.
