Hail,
I have an inspiron8100 with WinXP and lately have been
getting a bug where an open explorer.exe window
terminates and redraws the entire screen, system tray
etc.. without the explorer window open. On occasion I
have seen the screen redraw itself with no explorer
window open as well but it will still look the same. This
is annoying as is to have to reopen the explorer window
and find the subdirectory. However, about the same time I
started noticing that on my networked ME computer I get
an error mssg explorer.exe has caused an error in
<unknown>. The suggested fix is a reboot
The system
tray gets emptied of most of its icons unless i reboot.
I first worried about virus, kaza or add servers. I
read how savenow and the gator add trash can cause this
error but I have run adaware and manually gone thru the
add/remove programs and the msconfig file without finding
evidence for these. I have also run norton antivirus. I
have two other networked computers using win98 which dont
have this problem (?yet).
Please could anyone help or direct me to a good help
faq. The generic ones on windoze help site are way too
generic.
Thanks
Dave
