I have a machines using windows xp home and msie 6.0. I've updated the latest service packs for explorer. Recently, I've experienced where I can open up explorer but it will not connect to the internet. I get the response "cannot find server." The odd thing about it is, I can open up another browser (netscape, mozilla, opera) and get on the Internet with no problem

Anyone out there if experience this

Thanks in advance.

First eliminate any scumware.

Note that AdAware and SpyBot S & D will each catch some things the other
won't. Also, each needs to be updated before every use, even when just
downloaded. There's also a lot more to do than just those two programs.

I greatly appreciate your help in reading your
suggestions to others regarding spyware, etc... However,
I have removed all of these things from my comuter and
have tested my DSL with my laptop (IE pages load
immediatly), but I still hang while loading a page or
sending/receiving e-mail. Any further suggestions would
be greatly appreciated.

If you have removed the spyware and still no success check for "inetadpt.dll" if you find it follow this link for the cure

Hi Cliff:

If this is IE6, try disabling the 3rd party browser extensions. (The
Microsoft KB article on this is #298931.) Basically, click on "Tools" in
IE6 and go to "Internet Options." Go to the "Advanced" tab and look under
the "Browsing" category, around 12 squares down, for "enable third party
browser extensions (requires restart.)." Remove the checkmark from the box
beside the item, then click "Apply" and "O.K." You may have to restart the
computer first, it depends. This is going to remove all of the little
attachments to IE that may be stopping it from running. (Sometimes these
are add-ons that you want, like the Google searchbar, but most of them are
just junk.). Now IE should come up "clean" and you problem may be solved.

HTH,

Karen
