-----Original Message-----
when selecting (not opening) video (avi mpg, etc.) files with explorer,
explorer tries to get information on the files (for previewing, attributes
display in the status bar, etc.). while doing so, my mouse stutters, and the
system doesn't respond because the CPU is at 100%. after 5 or 10 seconds,
the file information is shown in the status bar, the CPU usage drops, and i
can resume normal usage. i don't have any extra or special attributes
listed, and shutting off the status bar or using a different view doesn't
change the problem.

this is really (REALLY) annoying, and i have no need for explorer to search
every file i click on for content information, so the question is...

how do i stop it / turn it off?

all help appreciated.

i'm running XP Pro SP1 and have all the latest patches.

please respond in the group, as i won't receive any email to this address.

thanks in advance,

.
Explorer/tools/Folder Options/view/advanced
settings/uncheck "display the full path in title bar.....
You might try "Restore Defaults" first.

i don't see how that would affect this problem.

besides, it was already unchecked. ;)

other takers?

Are these files in the "MyVideos" folder?

The only way I've found to get around the problem is to not use that folder
for anything. It's got special properties (or special problems depending on
how you look at it)

Other than that, I've had no problem selecting or moving video files that
were up to several gig in size. So that's my only guess.
