Explorer problem

I am having a terrible problem. I have recently gotten rid of a virus and
now I can't use the file explorer (to open a file folder such as My
Documents) or Internet Explorer. The windows open, but it can take up to 3
or 4 minutes.

In safe mode with networking, this problem doesn't exist. I can open
internet explorer windows, surf to various sites, and open any file folders I
wish. I have tried running msconfig and the problem persists even with
loading only "basic devices and services only" button selected.

I have defrag'd my hard drive, I have run every virus check and Pest Patrol
that I can find, but as I said, the machine functions fine and dandy in safe
mode and in safe mode with networking but not in regular mode.

In regular mode, it appears only to be the file explorer and internet
explorer that are affected as I can read my email on outlook express and I
can open internet windows when going through AOL (I don't regularly use
AOL--only have it for emergencies)

Thank you

I've tried typing that in the run box, but when I do, a windows flashes for
about a nanosecond and disappears. This is all that happens. Is there any
way to force it to run?

I also forgot to mention that I have SP2 installed. Could that be the
problem? Please help. I'm at a total loss and miss my machine something
fierce.
