Hello,

In Explorer I have a list of files sorted ascending on file name. The list
is below. Notice that "contivo_309_2004_03_17_1.zip" sorts before
"contivo_30801_2003_04_09_1.zip". If add trailing zeroes to the first set
of numbers to make them all 8 digits long, the list sorts correctly. Isn't
Explorer sorting the file names as strings?

contivo_309_2004_03_17_1.zip
contivo_309_2004_03_21.zip
contivo_309_2004_03_22_1.zip
contivo_30801_2003_04_09_1.zip
contivo_30805_2004_02_24.zip
contivo_30901_2004_04_13.zip
contivo_3080403_2003_12_02.zip
contivo_3080404_2003_12_08.zip
contivo_30804010_2004_01_26.zip
contivo_30804013_2004_02_02.zip
contivo_30804017_2004_03_18.zip

Thank You,
Don

Hello Don;

[[Sort Order - Incorrect

Files and folders whose name contains 10 or more consecutive digits are not
sorted correctly in Windows Explorer. For example, assume that you have
folders with these names:

1111111111
2222222222
3333333333
4444444444
5555555555

In Windows Explorer, these folder names are sorted as:

2222222222
3333333333
4444444444
1111111111
5555555555 ]]

Hello Wesley,

I added the registry entry, but it had no effect. Maybe I need to restart
my computer. I'll check the next time I restart my computer.

Thank you,
Don

Hello Don;

Yeah, you probably need to reboot. However, you can:

Ctrl + Alt + Delete | Highlight: explorer.exe | End Process
button | Answer Yes | File | New Task (Run...) | Type:
explorer.exe | OK

Your Desktop and Start button and Taskbar will disappear
when explorer closes, but will reappear when explorer.exe
starts back up. And you will get a message in the Event Viewer
about the Shell stopping. :-) Stopping and restarting the
Shell should be good enough to make the changes take effect.
