Clicking on Internet Explorer, Windows Explorer, My
Computer, or Control Panel does nothing. I lose my desktop
momentarily then it reappears, but the program does not
launch. This does not happen in Safe Mode. Tried reloading
IE 6 but got message that newer version there already. Made
registry changes as knowlege base recommended and tried
reinstall, now seems like it is halfway installed. Other
programs work OK. Since things work in Safe Mode, would it
be a driver or background task?

Usually when a program runs okay in safe mode it means a driver is at fault, in your
case I would guess it is a graphics/video driver. Go to the manufacturer's web site
and look around for an updated driver. Empty your cache, in IE, tools, Internet
Options, delete files.

I am having the same problem, drivers are updated, virus
scan came up with nothing. Any more ideas?

Hi George,

I got my to work finally. reboot in Safe-Mode with
networking and download Ad-aware 6 from
www.lavasoftusa.com. Run this and remove any entries
found. I also ran spybot, downloaded from
www.security.kolla.de, several times just to make sure,
with the latest updates. Next, I shutdown and powered off
my PC. rebooted in normal mode and then was able to open
Explorer, My Computer, My Network Neighborhood and IE,
without any messages in the Event Logs.

Regards,
Kim

I have the same problem also. So I installed Ad-aware 6,
downloaded the latest reference file and remove all
adware I can find. Then I restart my PC and everything
back to normal again.
