Explorer extra information

I just reinstalled Windoze. I would like a list of files in the
directory without the extra stuff it puts at the left of the screen
like "other places" "details"

Where is the setting to make this go away?

Do you mean you installed Windows XP of some version? From an explorer
window click on Tools | Folder Options | Use Windows classic folders.
