Explorer exits without warning

Actually have been experiencing three problems off an on
for some time.
1. Get popup saying explorer must quit - wants to send
error report to microsoft. Dont expect any feedback on
this problem. Just mention it in case it rings any bells
in light of other two symptoms.
2. I habitually have several IE windows open. Somewhat
regularly will get one that seems to lock up. Cant close
it. I end up just ignoring it and continue browsing,
opening new windows, closing others, etc. Invariably the
locked window never unlocks. Again, may or may not relate
to main problem.
3. Over the past few weeks, have more and more frequently
had IE exit without warning. No error message, justs
exits. Always happens when I click on a link. Doesnt
matter whether I have one window or several open.
Also..... the exit is immediate - I mean really
instantaneous. I click on a link and IE is gone in a
fraction of a second. No problem with other programs that
may be running at the same time. No problem re-launching
IE and going about my business.

Have searched KB and found a few references to sudden
exits but all refer to version 5 or earlier and most have
accompanying symptoms which my episodes dont have.

Any thoughts????? Have done the normal stuff - cleaned
out temp files, ran Norton systemworks, ran ad-aware, ran
spybot, you name it.

Appreciate any feedback. Sorry about the length.
