explorer.exe CPU usage

Lately I've been having problems with the
process "explorer.exe" under the task manager using as
much as 99% of my CPU time. This leads to a very slow
working speed and often Internet Explorer will stop
responding. Lately I've had to resort to ending the
process, which basically shuts down my start menu and
limits how I can use my computer. Of course restarting
the computer will fix that, but not the original problem.
What could cause explorer.exe to use so much CPU time?

You probably have spyware..
http://www.safer-networking.org/
download this and click on updates first before
running.Read instructions before first use.
Also, if you have any peer to peer (kazaa)programs they
will cause this also....Good luck.
.A device or driver conflict will certainly cause this
behavior. First I would try and see If I could spot what
it is I just did or am doing to make it go 99%. I.E Open
Media player.that type a thing.Or for a fast check if you
have an Antivirus turn it off and see if the 99% comes
when it usually does or not of course you don't want to
run a long time like this but while you are
troubleshooting ok. Another way is to type Msconfig in
the Run on the start menu and select the start up tab and
Disable all.Reboot check one back on Reboot check one
more Reboot . You must reboot after each change and note
the CPU behavior at each step, do a few things you are
usually doing when it goes 99%. iF IT DOES NOT GO UP good
check on another reboot you get the idea.
