I recently switched from 98 to xp pro. I thought xp was supposedly more
stable than 98. I get explorer crashes all the time. Is there a way to see
what is causing the crashes?

Hi

Have you had a look in the Event Viewer to see if there are any errors there that might be connected to Explorer? Do you get any error messages with these crashes?

I get most of the crashes when I browse up and down through the startmenu.
Last last error message I got from an explorer error was when I was browsing
the list of startmenu items. It read something like this:

Source: Winlogon
type: Information
EventID: 1002
Description:
The shell stopped unexpectedly and explorer.exe was restarted.

Under for more information it says something like this:

Product: Windows Operating System
ID: 1002
Source: Winlogon
Version 5.0
Component: Application Event Log
Symbolic Name: EVENT_MANDATORY_PROFILE
Message: The profile for user %1 is mandatory.

Explanation:
This event record indicates that the user has been assigned a mandatory
profile. The user can change environment settings during a logon session;
however, these changes are not saved in the profile at the end of the
session.

Strange because I wasn't trying to change any settings just moving the mouse
up and down the startmenu.

thanks for the links. I think I figured it out. I had to check the box in
folder options, view for launch folder windows in a separate process.
