Explorer Crashes

I am running Windows XP. Everytime I go into a certain
folder containing downloaded files using the Explorer or a
Browser, the Explorer or the program containing the Browse
function crashes and the system wants to send an error
message to MS. Because of this I am unable to even delete
any of those downloaded files. I have installed all of
the current MS Windows XP updates and am running a
antivirus program with uptodate, current virus files.
Please help me. Perhaps there is a MS paper on this
problem. Thanks.

Have you bailed out to a command line and tried deleting
the files?
Current guesses would have suggested that when you are
running Explorer and you browse to that folder then you
have something installed on your PC that scans the
contents of the folder. This could be something like
virus protection ensuring that the contents are clean.
When Explorer crashes you should be able to check the
details to find out what application just caused the
crash and may be able to track it down that way.

But anyhow. Go to a command line.
Change directory to the one with the downloaded files and
then delete the files from the 'DOS' prompt.

Hopefully you still know how to use 'DOS'.
