Using Micorsoft Internet Explorer to open a web page for
music lyrics...not even MP3 downloads or anything, I got a
popup window that said Microsoft Internet Explorer has
encountered a problem and needs to close....blah blah
blah. At first I clicked Don't Send the report, but then
the popup window opened again with the same message. So I
clicked Send Error Report. Ever since then I cannot get
Microsoft Internet Explorer to open on my computer. The
popup window comes back every time. I have done virus
scans, run scan disk, tried to delete Explorer so I could
re-install it, but found that it said it could be repaired
(and not deleted)... so I ran that twice...still didn't
work, so I tried installing it again anyways...and I have
also done a PC check-up on it and contacted Microsoft for
assistance. The email from Microsoft said to try all
these other things like asking in here. So here I am. I
am running Windows 98 and have done all the critical
updates as they have become available. AOL works as does
Netscape and all of my other programs. The only thing
that will not work is Interent Explorer. Does anyone have
any ideas??? Thanks

If you have been visiting MP3 download sites, good chance you have an unwanted
Spyware guest.

Proceed as follows:
Spyware Removal Tools, Lavasoft's "Ad-aware",
Direct download -
http://ftp.pcworld.com/pub/new/privacy___security/aaw6181.exe

Lavasoft/Ad-aware home: http://www.lavasoftusa.com
Mirror site: http://www.lavasoft.de/

*Also* install and run SpyBot Search & Destroy,
Direct download -
http://spybot.eon.net.au/files/spybotsd_mainapp.exe

SpyBot home: http://security.kolla.de/
SpyBot How-To: http://www.tomcoyote.org/SPYBOT/
More detailed help: http://tomcoyote.org/~mosaic1/spybot/
Support Forum, http://net-integration.net/cgi-bin/forum/ikonboard.cgi
Navigate to the SpyBot S&D section.

Install, reboot, read FAQ and overview, use online update feature to obtain the
latest reference files, scan for Spyware much like you would with your
pre-installed anti-virus scanner.
Rid your machine of unwanted Spyware pests.
