Explorer Browsing takes too much time

If we access windows explorer & when you click in the address bar down arrow
button to select drives its taking hell of time at the first time once
accessed rest of the times its ok.
We are having Windows XP sp2 mostly it occurs in windows 2000 upgraded
machines.but there are not much network drives mapped also .
-- How to solve this??????

Besides getting rid of mapped drives, make sure that there are no
CD/DVDs in the CD/DVD drives.

Thanks for quick reply but there are no cd/dvd in the drives and windows xp
is currently updated to its latest from site (Interms of patches & updates)
any other solution/clue for the problem .Bythe way its not only one machine
its more than 1 machine having the same problem
