Hi
please dont answer "use linux"!
;-)

does anyone know how to use another computer to expand my Windows XP
desktop?

Actually i have to disconnect the monitor and to connect it to my second VGA
output.

Do you know a standard or freeware way tu use remote desktop from the second
monitor to expand the deskop of the first one without switching anything?

Thank you very much.

Michel

What exactly do you want to do? Be able to put more icons on your
desktop? Or be able to see 2 different computers on the same monitor?

running one computer with 2 monitors.

running one computer with 2 monitors.

You plug one monitor into each video card. Or do you want to run 2
monitors, each showing the same thing, on 1 card? (You can't run 2
monitors showing different things on 1 card.)

I "just" want to run the first monitor on the (only) video card and then
"expand the desktop" using a second computer connected over the network, to
get twice the resolution.
Something Linux has built-in.

Using 2 monitors gives you twice the resolution? I'm running
1280X800. If I ran 2 monitors I'd get 2560X800? 1280X1600?

Linux (or any *nix) lets you connect a dumb terminal (or a computer
running a terminal program) as a console, but the console has whatever
resolution the video card is set to, and the computer *nix is running
on has the same resolution.

If you want to do that in Windows you can, but you won't increase the
resolution of either screen.

Running another monitor under Windows doubles the real estate, not the
resolution.

Yes. One half on each monitor.
1280X1600?
No. Unless windows could arrange the monitors on two rows.

Oh yes I see waht you mean. you did'nt see what I meant or are you just
kidding?
Your "real estate" ist not bad. I never had noticed it in conjucntion with
desktops.

I can't use my Laptop much anymore because I miss having 2 monitors
like on my Desktop machine. You can drag windows from one screen to
the other or stretch a window over the two windows. (It helps if they
are the same size, though).

My desktop has a 19" LCD monitor and an 18" CRT monitor. I plan on
loosing the 18" and get a second 19" LCD. Now, can I find a graphics
card for three, oops, I mean four monitors?
