I have a MSI 48x CR-RW drive that is running half-assed. It will start to
read disc and then stop about half way thru the installatin of a program and
go no further. This has happened with several CD programs (these same discs
will work with my DVD-RW drive). I am trying to update the firmware. I
downloaded the file, but the instructions say to copy the ".BIN file" and
the "update file" to C:/> and execute the "axxx.BIN" file in real DOS mode.
I am not familiar with DOS commands and was wondering how to do this. I
have a dual boot system with WIN 98 & XP Home. Which OS would be better to
update the firmware. Sorry in advance if the is a dumb question.

Any help appreciated!!

TIA

Charlie

You need to boot in to naked Win98. What I mean by naked is that NO commands in
AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS can be loaded. Then you can update the FirmWare. However, I
doubt that it will solve your problem. It sounds like you have a BAD drive.
