Go to www.dougknox.com, click on WinXP Fixes, select file association fixes.
Locate the .exe fix and download it.

The exefix from Doug's site should have solved it. BTW, did you unzip it and double-click the REG? This might not help. You will need to extract the REG file to some location, say C:.

To run the REG file, try renaming regedit.exe to regedit.com and execute the downloaded REG file using the command "regedit C:\filename.reg"

You DONT use wordpad for .exe files. Leave the .exe files alone as if
you save the .exe with wordpad you'll destroy it.

Check the registry value:

Click [Start] [Run] [Command]
Type the following and then press Enter after typing each one:

cd\windows
copy regedit.exe regedit.com
start regedit.com

Navigate to and select the following key:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\exefile\shell\open\command

Double-click the (Default) value in the right pane.
Delete the current value data, and then type: "%1" %*
(ie., type the following characters: quote-percent-one-quote-space-percent-asterisk.)

Exit the Registry Editor and restart Windows.

Is there an other way I can change the value?
I've tried to change the value in the "exefix" reg file,
and then running it again.

It tells me it has run the REG OK, but nothing changes.

No and yes !!
I can double-click it in Windows and open the Editor.
So I've deleted the value (which was OK) and reentered
it, restarted Windows, and...
