I am adding an index to a WORD document and it includes the Table of Contents when I mark entries. How do I get the index to exclude the TOC when I mark entries?

I don't think it's possible to exclude part of a document if you use the Mark All button when you mark the entries, but it's easy enough to delete the marked entries from part of a document by turning on hidden text, then select the part of the document where you don't want any marked entries, Search for "{ XE" (no quotes), and Replace All with nothing.

Hi =?Utf-8?B?cmFsMm4=?=,
I am adding an index to a WORD document and it includes the Table of Contents when I
mark entries. How do I get the index to exclude the TOC when I mark entries?The TOC is generated by a field. When a field updates, all editing changes to it are lost,
including anything like XE entries for an index. Just click in the TOC, press F9 to force
the update, and have it update the entire TOC (rather than just the page entries).
