Exclamation Mark, Paperclip, Flag on Inbox Panel

The three columns that appear to the left of the From column in the email
panel show an exclamation mark, a paperclip and a flag.
I assume the paperclip is to show messages received with attachments. Would
someone be so kind and tell me what the exclamation mark and theflag mean
please.
 
The exclamation mark denotes message importance and the flag is a setting
used to flag a message for follow up.
