Can i have private folders in Exchange 2003 ?
I want to reduce my on-line mailbox usage but keep all my old mails so i can
access them locally.

Please define Private Folders? Folders not accessible by other users? Yes.
If you want to keep mails above your mailbox storage limit, use archiving to
a .pst file. Check with your Exchange admin as many disable .pst files for
good reasons.

Why can't I just have all my emails go on to my computer instead of
using .pst to move them ?

So when ever I connect to the Exchange server it moves them to my PC
boxes and then I am holding everything locally. This accomplishes
several things as far as I am concerned:

1. I have access whether or not I am on line or on the network.
2. I can do my own backups of important stuff.
3. I never go over storage limits -- I can keep as much as my disk
will allow.
4. Our server has already crashed once and everything was lost -- I
take better care of my computer than they do of theirs.

set the default delivery location to pst - but be aware no one on the
network will see your free/busy and you can't use owa to access your mail.

Because the delivery must be to either a .pst file or exchange mailbox.
This CANNOT be changed. You can, however, control how mail is stored after
it has been delivered. Use a archive.pst file or manually move your mail to
file system folders. I prefer a .pst file.
