Excessive Disk Use by Outlook

XP SP3 user: When I start up Outlook 2007 and as long as it is open disk use
is almost constant (the disk use light goes off and on continuously).
Any help appreciated!!

Do you use Skype?
 
No, I do not use Skype and the only add-in I use in Outlook is that
installed by Free AVG.

The first thing you should do when trying to diagnose a problem is to get
everything out of the way. There's no need to scan incoming or outgoing mail.
Uninstall AVG and reinstall it without the mail scanner. Then test again.
