I purchased a new computer using XP. My old computer was
running Windows95. Dell also sold me a software program
to transfer all my files from my old computer to new
computer called Intellmover.
First,I loaded Office 97, then I transfer the files
All my files transfered, however I cannot open any Excel
files on my new computer, (My word files work fine).
When I try to open an Excel file, I get the following
error message "(filename).xls:File format is not Valid".
I am running Office 97, version 7.0
Can you help!

Hi,

Did you know that XP has it's own file transfer wizard to move files? Did you
actually install Office on your new computer or did you transfer the
applicaition? Excel 97 works fine with XP so it is not that. IS it possible
that the files got opened in Word and were saved in there? Try opening 1
insignificant file that was moved and see if it opens in Word.
